Boston University




Boston University is located along the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts, the cultural and historical capital of New England. Boston has the largest number of Universities, educators and students of any city in the United States. Students can find art, music, theater, cafes, or a park for an afternoon stroll around any corner. With four distinct seasons, Boston allows student to ski in the winter and have  fun on the beach on the summer. Boston's Logan Airport serves all international carriers. Taxis, an extensive subway system, and buses make getting around the city easy.



Education:
Boston University which was founded in 1839 is a private non-sectarian, coeducational research university with eleven undergraduate colleges and schools. One of the world's great academic institutions and the fourth largest private university in the United States. Boston University offers more than 5,500 coursesin more than 250 major and minor fields including business management, communications, computer science, engineering, hospitality, humanities, medicine, performing arts, science and social sciences. The main University campus has 348 buildings, 489 class rooms, and 1759 laboratories. Mugar Memorial Library, the largest of the University's twenty three libraries, houses 1.8 million volumes and 2.8 million microform equivalents. Academics advising, career counselling, internships, and computer facilities are available to all students. The faculty members, including three Noble Prize winners are accomplished, dedicated educators. Notable graduates include Martin Luther King Jr. former United States secretary of Defense William Cohen, actress Geena Davis and the chairman of the General  Motors, John F. Smith, Jr.

Campus Life:
Boston University is the embodiment of the diversity that characterizes the United States. Students come to the University from all fifty states and 133 countries. Students may choose to live in a variety of residents on campus. Speciality housing is available for students with similar academics or extracurricular interests. Nearly 400 organizations on campus keep students busy outside the classroom, including athletics, musical, cultural and political clubs. The campus athmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and outgoing.

For International Students:
Boston University is an exciting and rewarding place to get  an education. International students are an important component of the community. Prior to the start of classes, the International Students and Scholars Office conducts an orientation for students to meet one another, become acquainted with the University and the city, and register for classes. The office assists students by answering questions about visas, employment, banking, and anything else of concern to the student. Intensive English preparation (ESL) is also available to students prior to enrolling in the University.
